Job Description

Chief Financial Officer
Hartford, CT | Full-Time, Onsite
Compensation: $140,000 – $175,000 plus full benefits package

About the Company
Our client is a multigenerational, family-owned retailer headquartered in Hartford County. Known for its product expertise and customer relationships, the company is navigating a changing retail landscape and is investing in stronger financial leadership to guide its next phase with an upcoming retirement.

The Opportunity
This is a hands-on CFO role for a finance leader who thrives on cash management. While the accounting function is well established, the company's biggest financial priority is treasury: forecasting, managing, and optimizing cash flow to support day-to-day operations and long-term decisions. You will be a trusted advisor to ownership and a key voice in several important strategic decisions over the coming months, including evaluating the company's physical footprint and operating model. This is an immediate opening for a leader who can make an impact quickly.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own treasury and cash flow management, including weekly cash forecasting, disbursement planning, and working capital strategy
  • Manage and strengthen banking and lender relationships, including the company's line of credit
  • Lead cost/benefit analyses and provide clear recommendations on major strategic and facility decisions
  • Oversee all accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and the month-end and year-end close
  • Improve inventory management and purchasing discipline, working with operations and purchasing to reduce excess stock and tie purchasing to demand
  • Negotiate supplier terms and contracts, and build supplier scorecards and vendor performance metrics
  • Develop SOPs, KPIs, and management reporting where none currently exist
  • Maximize the use of the company's ERP system (Acumatica) to drive efficiency, visibility, and better data
  • Oversee payroll, benefits administration, insurance, and IT coordination
  • Work closely with outside legal and CPA advisors on tax, compliance, and entity matters
  • Lead and develop a very small accounting team

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Proven experience as Finance Leader or a Controller who is looking to take the next step in their career
  • Demonstrated strength in treasury and cash management
  • Experience in retail, distribution, or inventory-heavy businesses strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of inventory valuation, purchasing processes, and vendor negotiations
  • Experience with a modern ERP
  • Comfort building process and metrics in an environment that is ready for them
  • Strong communicator who can partner with family ownership and external bankers and advisors
  • Hands-on, pragmatic, and able to balance strategic planning with day-to-day execution

What We Offer
  • Salary of $140,000 – $175,000, based on experience
  • Full benefits package
  • A senior leadership seat with direct impact on the company's direction
  • Full-time onsite role
