Cost Accounting Analyst

Job Description

Cost Analyst ($35-45/hr, depending on experience)
Contract position out of Hartford County, CT (hybrid work schedule)

  1. Contract costing – investigate, analyze and record costs of projects and identify areas where efficiency could be improved.
  2. Report investigation findings to management and support decision making and other financial initiatives.
  3. Develop complex interconnected spreadsheets and databases to automate labor costing for 'what if' scenarios.
  4. Determine and implement cost accounting procedures and methods.
  5. Prepare and analyze cost reports and conduct costing audits. Review unusual cost records to ensure accurate allocation of cost data.
  6. Conduct variance analysis between actual and standard costs. Monitor, analyze, and report on inventory valuation, production, and other costs.
  7. Generate reports by analyzing costs and resources, assisting in the identification of actionable projects based on findings.
  8. Identify existing trends and monitor changes over time, contributing insights for strategic decision-making.
  1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.
  2. 5+ years in an accounting or analyst role, with a focus in contract and costing
  3. Strong understanding of contract costing principles.
  4. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel or MS Access.
  5. Experience in compensation or labor relations (preferred but not required).
  6. Ability to construct large, complex interconnected spreadsheets or databases.
  7. Analytical mindset with the capability to interpret and communicate complex data effectively.
  8. Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present findings to management.
